Special Stitches:  FPDC (Front Post Double Crochet)
yo, starting from the front of your work, insert hook from front to back to front  around the post of  (stitch) in row below; complete as a (double crochet). 

Row 1:  Ch 30, dc in 4th ch from hook.  Dc in each remaining chain across, turn.  (28 dc)

Row 2:  Ch 2, dc in next 2 stitches, [fpdc over next two stitches, dc in each of next 2 sts] repeat across to last st, hdc in last st, turn.

Row 3:  Ch 2, fpdc over next two stitches, [dc in each of next 2 sts, fpdc over each of next 2 sts] repeat across to last st, hdc in last st, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you reach the desired length you want for your bookmark.  The bookmark in the photo has 51 rows and is 6 inches long.

 Do not fasten off. 

Edging: ch 1, sc evenly down the side of the bookmark, work 2 sc in each corner, sc in each chain across of the beginning foundation chain, work 2 sc in corner, sc down the side of bookmark, work 2 sc in corner, sc in each stitch across and join with sl st to first sc. 

Fasten off and weave ends.  Press lightly with an iron or block on a blocking board.
